Suffering panic attack symptoms at work was the most awful experience. I was working in a bank that was undergoing some renovations. For some reason the manager thought I should be the one at the front desk where the weather blew in through the open doors. Well, I guess I knew the reason really. I was the one with the best sales record so needed to be 'on tap' for customers to make his sales look good. That's what I think anyway.
Now I wasn't there to just answer people's enquiries. I was the only one at the front but still having to cope with the same workload that all the other three personal bankers had. You'd have thought that we would have shared the spot but no. After two weeks out there bundled with a jacket and scarf because of the cold winds I went to the washroom only to return to be told that Mr X was waiting for me. He's been in the bank three times already that day.
I started to shake, my hands became clammy, my breathing was hurried and my heart beat so fast and seemed so loud that I thought it would burst. I sank to the floor in a heap. Everyone was looking at me. Fortunately that was not in the banking chamber but from then on I had this vision of this frightening thing happening to me in front of customers. This made things worse.
That was my first public panic attack and it was humiliating. Do you know what I mean? Now with the internet I don't feel quite so alone. I came across this site the other day that has some great stuff called Anxiety Attack Symptoms
